Abstract

INTRODUCTION: Vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC) is an infectious disease caused by a fungus of the Candida generous. The species albicans is responsiblefor more than 90% of the VVC. It is considered that more than two thirds of the women in the world will have at least one episode of VVC during theirlifetime. Objectives: Knowing the frequency of inflammatory process caused by Candida in results of Pap smear in a DST clinic. Establish the profile ofwomen with positive results for Candida in preventive exam. Determine the association of vaginal infection found by Pap smear. Methods: Treats aboutthe retrospective positive cases for candida, diagnosed from Pap smear, colleted in women assisted in the UFF-STD Sector in 1995. Results: From 572preventives realized, the positivity for candida accured in 49 (8,6%) of the cases. The association between candida and bacterial vaginosis was 0,3% andbetween candida and trichomoniasis was 0,5%. The found of candida in fresco microscopy was 77,6% of all positive lamina in the stained Pap smear. Fortywomen (81,6%) accepted realizing the serological exams for syphilis, and all the results were negative. Conclusion: The profile of the women withinflammatory process caused by candida in the PAP smear was young people (between 21-30 years), singles, pard, with low scholarship level, low parity(gestation II), first sexual activity between 16-20 years, who don’t use contraceptive methods nor use regularly condoms, are heterosexual, with fixed andexclusive partner, practice oral sex, have orgasm and in the historical progress of STD, the infection for HPV is the most mention. Medicine associationsare not justified for vaginal products because coinfections of candida, bacterial vaginosis and trichomoniasis are extremely rare.
