Vulvovaginitis in HIV infected women

lt has beeo observed a high incidence of HIV infection among women in thc last years and il has been suposed heterossexual transmission may play an importanl role in vírus transmition. However only recent works has stated what migh be happening in vagmal flora of infccted women. This study intented to describe and compare vaginal flora and vaginal inflammatory response among three groups: high risk HIV seronegative women, non-AIDS and AIDS HIV seropositive women. To reach this objectivc 75 HIV high ris!, seronegative women (Group A) aod 77 H[V seropositive women from STD outpati.ent clinic ofCAJSM were included in this work. No pregnant or puerperal women were included. The CDC clinicai classification HJV infection from 1986 was used to group patients in: Group B (46) - stages I and II and Group C (31) - stages lll and IV. lt was performed a gynecologicaJ examitation folowed by a dlrect and Gram scaim search ofvaginal content, wich aJ·e acccssibles exams for primary care in Brazil. Data were introduced into SAS software for statistical analysis through Qui-square, fi'isher exact testes and logi.stic regression (p<0,05).
